TAFFYS TRAILS - A LITTLE HISTORY

March 22, 2018

IN THE BEGINNING

Taffys Trails was a little twinkle in my eye, just over a month ago. It wasat that time we had the builders in to start work on alterations to make our house wheelchair friendly.

It was also one of the coldest months we've had for a long time. With the threat of the dreaded black mortar dust, we promptly covered everything up that we could and had to try and make our minds up on where we could go out with our two dogs in tow.

IN OR OUT

It was obvious that indoors anywhere was out of the question and outdoors was also very limited, we did the same thing that we had done for the last 7Yrs, that i had been in the wheelchair.

That was to search the internet for somewhere interesting outdoors that the dogs could go plus also had disabled parking and toilets near by.

BRAIN WAVE

Apart from the few places that we had found over the years, we couldn't find anything else......

That's when the earth shook and i was stood at the end of a rainbow, Well i had an idea anyway.

I've had enough of this i thought, I'm going to make a change and get as many routes, trails and attractions

along with all the accompanying information together in one place. That's when Taffys Trails was born.

THE START

The name TAFFYS TRAILS just came to me, I don't know where from or why but it fits so, it's stayed. So far anyway! We thought the line "Accessible routes, trails & attractions for all abilities" basically summed up just what we were all about so that has been added as well.

THE TEAM

Taffys Trails is made up of myself, Mark Turner a 51Yr old Paraplegic, through Neurological Disorders.

My rock, wife and part time Sherpa Lyn. Followed by our two dogs....Rex my Chodsky Pess, trainee assistance dog and Taffys Trails Apprentice. Then we have Oscar the Bichon Frieze, well umn we'll call him the mascot.

MISSION

At Taffys Trails we're on a mission to get as much information as possible, including maps, photos & videos of routes, trails & attractions plus lists of ameneties at these locations as well as the types of wheelchairs/scooters they would best accomodate.

END GOAL

We at Taffys Trails would like to see hundreds if not thousands of fully documented routes, trails & attractions listed on our platform, enabling people of all abilities to have a one stop place for all the information needed for a great day out or a well planned holliday itinerary. This will make our great countryside as ACCESSIBLE as it deserves to be, or more so as WE deserve to have it.

Another big goay of Taffys Trails is to have many, many more places with access ti hire all terrain scooters and wheelchairs. This will allow many more visitors to sample our countryside where they were previously barred due to their own equipment being un-suitable.

WITH THE RIGHT INFORMATION AND RIGHT EQUIPMENT WE CAN OPEN UP THE GREAT COUNTRYSIDE FOR THOUSANDS OF REGULAR AND NEW USERS OF ALL AGES AND ALL ABILITIES. SOME FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME.

THIS WILL BENEFIT EVERYONE LOCAL TO, AND FAR AWAY FROM ANY OF THE LISTINGS, BRINGING IN NEW PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE THE AREA. WHO WILL GET TO KNOW THE HIGH STANDARD OF INFORMATION ETC THAT TAFFYS TRAILS PROVIDES, TEMPTING THEM TO VISIT PASTURES NEW FOR THE DAY OR EVEN A HOLIDAY. THEREFORE POSSIBLY INCREASING TOURISM TO VARIOUS AREAS.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS FIRST BLOG.
